Mike Nielsen

 A native of South Lake Tahoe, Mike Nielsen is the founder and owner of Tahoe Topliners Guide Service. A guide service based on performing light tackle techniques to catch trophy rainbows, kokanee, browns and mackinaw, Nielsen is one of the more reputable guides in California and spends the majority of his time on Lake Tahoe jigging, trolling and using live bait.

 

In business since 1996, Nielsen has established and shattered Tahoe’s brown trout record three times and spent nearly a decade (1997-2005) managing The Sportsman, a tackle shop in South Lake Tahoe. Nielsen is licensed by the Coast Guard and a seasoned veteran when it comes to the relationship between professional guiding and promoting sponsors.

 

For the last decade, Nielsen has been featured in several national, regional and local fishing magazines and guides, including California Fishing & Hunting News, The Fish Sniffer, California Game & Fish, Rocky Mountain Game & Fish, ESPN.com Outdoors, The LA Daily News, Western Outdoor News, The Definitive Guide to Fishing Northern California and other local magazines. Nielsen frequents the airwaves as a guest on Sep Hendrickson’s California Sportsman Radio, Bob Simms’ Outdoor Show, Joel Shangle’s Northwest Wild Country and other shows across the West.

 

In addition to print advertising, Nielsen promotes his sponsors and guide business through an array of public speaking venues, including the International Sportsman’s Exposition’s western show circuit and at local and national retailers, most notably Cabelas and Scheels in Reno.
