Born and raised in Northern Ontario, Tom Armstrong is an angler and outdoors writer living in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Situated on the north shore of Lake Superior, he’s grown up hunting and fishing the region.

After spending a long, cold Northern Ontario winter ice fishing, Armstrong spends his spring fishing the tributaries along Superior’s north shore. Healthy steelhead runs and breathtaking scenery blesses a plethora of opportunities at his doorstep. With several quality steelhead rivers located in Thunder Bay, and numerous rivers close to home along the north shore, Armstrong frequently chases Superior steelhead in the spring.

In summer he takes advantage of quality salmon fisheries surrounding Thunder Bay and targets Superior’s Chinook, rainbows, lake trout and brook trout. Come fall, Armstrong focuses on the salmon run, again fishing the tributaries along Superior’s north shore, spending most of his time on the world famous Nipigon River, targeting Chinooks and steelhead.

Armstrong is a freelance outdoor writer and photographer, and is also involved with several outdoors organizations. He serves on the board of directors of the North Shore Steelhead Association and the Northwestern Ontario Sportsmen’s Alliance.
